Why would carolina want spare parts for a young top 4 D?

My thoughts exactly with Leafs Lunch on the deal. Pesce would be a nice addition to the Leafs but Carolina will ask for a better quality return then the one listed. If Pesce were available, there would be a number of teams in on him, and potentially driving up his value.

Yep, you’re not slowly filling the trade bar on NHL 18. In real life quantity doesn’t equal quality.

Pesce is not going to be traded. The Canes have no depth on RHD aside from McKeown. They are like the Leafs in that reguard.

They are loaded in talent on the left and will probably be making a deal at the deadline using them as bait.

It just won't be with the Leafs.

Florida's Pysyk or Petrovic are a more realistic option for the Leafs, since both teams have different needs. And both are more affordable.

I would do:

TOR: Leo (F), 2nd
FLO: Petrovik (RHD)

Petrovik would become our 3rd pair RHD, he can fight, can chip in on the offense, he's big, he hits, good skater, and he's cheap. And he will fit the needed pay scale portfolio going forward.

Pesce on the other hand is already long term at 4M, and that money will be needed down the road for Liljegren, and Rasanen who will displace him any way.

Lab

Nice trade, we get a big rd and also open a spot for either Leivo or Kapanen.
