Leivo
To Vancouver for
3rd round pick

Only because he’s too good of a player to be sitting in a press box watching games. It’s nice to have such a reliable player waiting to be inserted in lou of an injury but the Leafs have Kapanen and Sosh who are more than capable to fullness in.
Hunter has done great things with the pucks moving up and down to draft his targets who all seem promising, it’s a win win.

Dbone

WE are moving people out this season Jvr Bozak komarov so Leivo and Kapanan become important. The team you see now is not what enters playoffs. The better the leafs do now. Will only tell them what've pieces are missing for a Stanley up run.

David

We have so many quality young wingers coming up soon (grundstrom, timoshov, Kapanen etc) and we're ruining Leivo's career sitting in the press box for years with barely any decent amount of playing in the NHL, trade him now so he can actually play.

Dbone

I like your trade.

I usually don't agree with David but leivo is worth much more to leafs than a 3rd.

I do not support this trade.

You should not either.

Shame on you

:)

Have to disagree with trading leivo. Yes you can sympathize with him and say he should be playing, but this is all business for Lou and company. They don't care about leivo until they need him. They know what they have and expect him to perform when called upon. You don't trade someone because you feel bad for him. You trade him to better your club. Don't think this betters the club.

It is a business, but it’s only a matter of time before Leivo goes public with a trade request and Leafs lose any leverage they have with Leivo. Being in Leivos position I would’ve requested a trade already.
Also, trading Leivo doesn’t hurt the roster either.
Anyone thinking the Leafs are moving out JVR, Bozak and/ or Komarov couldn’t be more wrong. The Leafs aren’t rebuilding anymore, they’re holding their assets to make a run.
Komarov could be moved, but that’s all that will be moved. Having the chance to go for a cup is more important than trading for picks and prospects.

And completely honest, the team will be better without Komarov. Putting Browny with Kadri and Marleau makes a much more dangerous but still responsible line.

The trade for a 3rd rounder is fair value for a guy not even getting NHL games right now and has a grand total of 41 NHL games. He’s an NHLer but his value doesn’t rise jus because he’s a Leaf and deserves a spot elsewhere. Without reps and something proven outside of his last 25 games over 2 years, it’s not enough to ask more than a 3rd
for a 24 year old with 41 games played.

I do agree with you, but look what they did to frankie corrado even if leivo goes public, it doesn't mean anything. Lou does what Lou wants. I think that's pretty clear. Lol.

You start off by suggesting good trade (i am not sold on Leivo) sure get mid round pick. I will do that trade everyday

Then your last comment is the team is better off without Komarov. completely disagree. At worst he is your 4th line center going forward to insulate younger players on third line. You need guys like him.

Dbone it will play out completely opposite of what you suggest. Komarov will be retained, as he will be cheap. Jvr and bozak will either be traded or will walk as UFA's next year.

I want to see Marner center a line between Marleau and Brown. I would like to see what JVR can do on the left side of Matthews with Nylander. Bozak centering Kadri and Hyman on the 3rd line checking line would be interesting. Komarov might be better off on the fourth line with Fehr and Martin for now.

Valid arguments on both sides but I'm leaning with MatthewsC on this one.

How does a 3rd round pick help the Leafs this season? Keeping Leivo in reserve is good team strategy. It's called depth. Leivo is being paid regardless. I know it doesn't help his career but that's the nature of this business. He isn't the first player to be on the cusp nor the last.

Lou is obviously not going to give this guy away just to appease sentiment. Not when they have him available to slot into the lineup in any given night. i'm sure management has already held discussions with Leivo about his role this season.

I think it would be mighty nice if they let him for out of the good of their heart. Poor guy.

I don’t agree with many people on this site, and seldom pay does anyone agree with me. I think I’m right and most of you MOST not all, are wrong.

Ares you’re one of the good ones pal.

It’s jus some people on this fantasy rumour site don’t know offsides from icing, honestly. It’s like being told you’re riding a bike wrong by someone who’s never been on a bike.

I hear you Dbone and completely agree on a few that have been rude and disrespectful. It's so unfortunate when a put down or ridicule is added because it's a missed opportunity to collaborate on some interesting ideas.

We're all fans of the game. We should all be respecting each other's viewpoints even when we don't agree.

We can start our own threads if you like, just you and me, and anyone else interested in positive communication are more than welcomed to join.
