Not happening. We already had this kind of thread discussion awhile ago. Doughty is a franchise defenceman who is a difference maker on the ice. Plus he logs some of the most minutes in the league which also outlines his importance to the team. JVR is elite but not on the same level. The first is an added overpayment. Doughty alone is worth more than JVR.

In terms of this trade proposal, I feel the Leafs could do better if they were to trade JVR. D O U G H E R T Y (you can see the similarities in spelling to another well known player) sounds like a promising prospect but if the Leafs are unable to get a top 4 defender from another team, then they could at least attempt to pry away a team's top prospect. In this instance, I would be looking at someone higher up the depth charts than D O U G H E R T Y (hope I spelled that right) .

According to NHL. com the top 5 are: Girard, Kamenev, Fabbro, Tolvanen, and Carrier;

In another promising preds prospects list: the names were similar with the exception of Harper and Trenin;

And in another from the Tennesseean, Tolvanen, Fabbro, Girard, Harper, and Trenin make the top five.

Then there's the ever trendy pyramid ratings where D O U G H T E R Y isn't even listed in the first three tiers. Those of you familiar with the pyramid ratings understand what level prospects an organization has in the fourth and lower tiers.

I had to dig much deeper to find this prospect.

ISS reports that he's "not very creative with the puck" but there is top 4 potential.

Hockeyprospects. com Mark Edwards writes that he "moves the puck but not very dynamic. "

Was drafted in 2014 and been to three rookie camps.

On the forcheck ranked him at 14. Other sites higher but not in the top 5.
