Tons of guys start AHL that become great defencemen. At camp we get good look dermott, neilsen and liljegren we are going to see some good things. A taste of what is to come.

All good points Davidmackin which is why the Leafs will remain patient in taking the longer process of building a contender from within and not taking the "draft shmaft" or "build on the fly" approaches of previous Leaf GMs.

Number one as 20 year old Neilsen better stats than Brennen. Number two you just don't know what a kid is at 20 look at jake gardener I could list 1000 names of players that struggled early and became elite players Anton Stralman. So don't be pulling plug an young players .

Brennan couldn't play a lick of defensive hockey. Nielsen is physical and plays with sand paper and has a good shot. Nielsen and Brennan aren't comparable, Nielsen and his game right now can probably fill in for injured players and not look that out of place. With coaching Nielsen could be a real good D.

Brennan was tried by several franchises and didn't stick with any. It's hard for players to make this league especially with a cap in place which favours younger and cheaper contracts.
