I agree with moving Ben Smith but I dunno if those returns are fair, heavily favouring the Leafs. I kind of think the Goat may be the future 4th line centre on this team, he's great defensively and he's big and strong.

1st trade: a depth player + a 3rd to 4th line center at best who hasmt made the NHL yet isn't worth a 3rd and a 2nd

2nd trade: Rychel got Scott Harrington and Rychel hasn't proven a thing in the NHL already at 22 so he's worth a lower pick.

Guys like Gauthier and Rychel need to be in a package to deliver a strong get return. Think Bozac or JVR along with one or both. The returns you are suggesting as single trades makes little sense.

I think Dbone and Goatson are right about the return on these deals.

We all know that Smith is destined for the minors. Unless there's a string of injuries, we won't see him in the NHL this year. Any team trading for Smith would be doing so to add depth at the AHL level; much like how the leafs got Kalinin.

The jury is still out on whether the Rychel or Gauthier become regular NHLers.
