JVR, Bozak, 3rd rounder in 2018

For

Shea Theodore, 1st in 2018

Connor Brown, Carrick, Marincin

For

Montour, 2nd round pick in 2018

So line 1- Rielly, Montour
Line 2- Theodore, Borgmann
Line 3- Gardiner, Dermott
Line4- Butcher/Rosen, Liljegren

Gardiner is ok but less ice time will mean less eyes on his sloppier risk taking play. Which will increase his trade value later on when we have a replacement. This Butcher kid is being talked up. Leafs should pounce. Let's not forget Aaltonen and Bracco could make the team. Babcock thinks well of Aaltonen. Hopefully they pick up Jonathan Smart and stock the pool a bit. Liljegren gets eased into the NHL and hopefully has a break out following year in either of the top 2 pairs.

Where is Zaitsev.

I don't know if Borgman is suited for NHL minutes yet, he will probably need a year or two before he even gets consideration. Leafs also aren't in on Butcher.

Vegas doesn't want two rentals who are going to leave town after one season, definitely not for their best young D and a potential #1 pick.

I actually don't mind the 2nd trade, as much as I like Brown and believe he will be a Leaf this season, Kapanen could step in on that third line pretty easily imo. While gaining a good young RHD.

I can conquer with Dbone on the Vegas trade as there is no way the Golden Knights, an expansion franchise, are sacrificing their young assets so early into their build. Vegas is more likely to finish this season with another lottery pick in the 2018 draft which is said to be deeper than this years and featuring the likes of Dalhin, Svechnikov and Veleno. Vegas doesn’t need to make this deal as it would be counterproductive to their long-term vision of building a winning team.

The Anaheim deal is a more likely scenario because of Brown’s perceived value as a young 20-goal scorer. That being said, I don’t believe Toronto will trade Brown, especially since trade speculations illustrate the Leafs patience in exploring more cost effective options (i. e. Polak, Ozhiganov) . Plus it would be a mistake on the Leafs part to give up on Brown as he will make for a reliable role player on this team.

Ozhiganov? Tell me more about this guy, never heard his name before?

Dbone,
Sportsnet and several other sources posted on him. He's playing in the KHL for CSKA; he's a RD, 24 years old, 6-2, 207lbs. He was a former teammate of zaitsev. Word is he's pretty good.

Theodore is a LHD and we are overflowing at that position. I can't see giving up a RHD (Carrick) for a RHD defense (Montour) and Brown. The second to the Leafs does nothing right now.

@Ares,

Cool, that's very interesting. I did some searching and saw a few highlights and whatnot looks like he may be ok. Obviously can play if the Leafs are interested. He is under contract until April in Russia, so must be looking for next season or something.

Dbone,
I read he won the hardest shot at the KHL all star game. Comparisons to Babcocks visit in Russia for dinner with the defender are similar to how things unfolded with Zaitsev. Again, it's just speculation but it's good to see management exploring other options.
