If Karl Alzner resigns with WSH longterm, that means that their top 4 is set for at least the next four years (Carlson, Alzner, Niskanen, Orlov) . If so, would Nate Schmdit be on the block? Cause imo, he played one hell of a series against the Leafs, and I would love to have him on the Leafs playing with M. Rielly.

would this work,
N. Schmidt + 2017 5th Round Pick to Toronto in exchange for 2018 2nd Round Pick (lower of two) + J. Piccinich + J Greenway.

So give all that up for a 7th LHD?

@Goatson

Did you see thw way he played? If you watched the leafs games (assuming you did), the dmen on WSH i noticed the most was Schmidt/ Orlov. Schmidt isn't getting much of a shot with WSH becauee of their deoth on defense, so I thought he'd be a nice puck mover next to Rielly. As well, it isn't much to give up. The 2nd is the lower of the SJS or TOR, and Piccinich and Greenway may be fourth liners, but are probabky careers AHLers, so yeah i don't think its realy 'all that'

Too much to give up for a LHD we don't need.

An interesting Dman if he could play on the right side.

Tss

The capitals won't be able to afford Alzner and Shattenkirk so Schmidt would be in those spots next year. We need to focus on our RD and getting a LD who is only top 6 is not going to fix our d.
