After watching the 3 rookie squad games and seeing how good Valiev, Nielsen and Dermott look (especially Valiev and Nielsen) there's no doubt in my mind Valiev will get a good look at some point this year. With three promising young LHD this makes Gardiner expendable so would like to see a package at the deadline for a bundle of draft picks or a pick and a quality prospect.

I like your thinking but any good d-man in this league is worth at least a 1st rd pick and prospect normally. With the expansion draft this year, who know how teams look at trading for players that they could lose in the summer. It just makes those draft picks all the more valuable.

It takes defencemen longer to develop so don't be ditching Gardiner too quickly.

Gardiner doesn't have hockey sense, Babcock is all about high hockey IQ. You cannot teach Gardiner that, has all the ability to be a quality top 4 d, but has nothing between his ears.

Gardiner has hockey sense, but that was all but destroyed by a certain previous coach who took all confidence out of the kid. Babcock needs to build him back up, and has started doing that, so Gardiner should get at least another year before any decisions are made about moving him.

gardiner had his best year under babcock last year. His advance stats had him top 10 in the league. look it up!

Gardiner only switched to D his draft year. It's taken him time to develop but his last season looked promising. I say hold off and give him 1 more to know what you truly have.
