The last player of the Leafs big four they should trade is Marner as he love Toronto and plays with his heart. Better off trading that soft floater Matthews that doesn't drive the play and will jump ship in 4 years. Plus the Leafs will get some dumb team to offer a lot more for him.

Maybe if St. Louis offered Thomas as well and the leafs added a 2nd and Abramov or SDA or something.

Mathews drives play with the best of them. Check his stats. He is easily a top 3 player in the league. I was always critical of Mathews effort as well but since last playoffs he really stepped it up. He used his big body more this year, scored more, avoided injuries, drove play, and improved defensively (no he isn't a seller nominee but better than he was lol) .

I am of the mindset that any player is available at anytime for the right price. I'm not averse to trading anyone but Marner didn't exactly take a discount now did he? He was fully prepared to leave or without if it came down to it. Doesn't sound like someone we should all praise as a hometown hero to me.

Marner also entertained offers from other teams. Let's not forget about that. His old man and agent leaked info to the press and walked all over Dubas in negotiations. They didn't take a max term deal and made sure to grab as much money as they can. The comparison to Matthews was unnecessary and kinda drove home the point that this is a team of individuals trying to one up each other rather than work as a team.
