Now before you all start ripping my post up I also think that Dermont could be resigned with the money saved from putting Gauthier on waivers and Speeza not resigned.

Toronto could trade him for defense help instead of signing a UFA OR could trade him for picks.

Nylander or Marner will probably be moved next season 2021-2022 to make cap space for signing Andersen and Rielly. But hopefully the cap goes up by then and we can keep them.

I don't see Nylander helping. Has to be Marner or Nylander+Johnson/ Kapanen. Moving out a guy making 6.9 just doesn't seem to help if your signing both. Reilly will need at least 10/ yr. Freddy probably 7/ yr. So if the cap goes up by say 4mil and you trade Marner for picks and prospect you can resign both. Otherwise you trade Nylander+Kapanen and have a very weak top 9 after 3 guys.

I think Dubas will trade our entire third line (Johnsson, Kapanen, and Kerfoot) before he bites the bullet and admits his mistake and trades any if the top 4 guys.

Dubas entire philosophy is built around hockey being a strong-link sport. He will have an entire bottom six of fringe players making league minimum before he parts with any of our top 4. And by the time he realizes he has to trade Marner, it might be too late. That will be the job of his successor.

Idk if anyone has watched the video with button and how he said where the leafs went wrong was signing Tavares he says it made no sense they had kadri at 2c coming off back to back 30+ goal years not to mention offence was not an issue which eventually led to the departure of kadri and even brown who was a horse and one of our best pk guys also button went on to say that if played a big part in both marner and Matthews contract I think a big piece needs to be moved to try and balance things out I can see the leafs going backwards next year.

I would agree with that one too Leafs1994. Most teams in the NHL would be ecstatic having Matthews and Kadri as our too centres. Sure, no doubt Tavares is a better player than Kadri. But is he a $7M better player than Kadri. That $7M could have bought us a proper 1RHD on multi-year contract. If I had a choice between Tavares or Kadri+Dumba (for example), I would keep Kadri+Dumba every time.

Didn't see what your talking about Leafs1994 but I agree completely there. I didn't really see why we needed Tavares at the time either. He's a better player and I am happy to have him but at the end of the day he isn't so much better than Kadri that 11m is justified.

Robin Lehner is a better, cheaper, and underated replacement for Freddy imo. Just look where he took the Islanders.

I don't think the leafs should be re-signing Freddy to a contract over 7 million and Reilly may not actually cost as much. It totally depends on next year.

He didn't take Chicago anywhere this year though. He faced about the same amount of shots in Chicago as he will face on the Leafs. So is a goalie with a 3.00 gaa really better choice than Anderson? He do about the same job for us as Andersen and cost just the same. Except Lehner needs signing this year, so his cap hit would come in a year when the cap might not be going up. So it's probably not a good idea to be adding salary in net this year if we can avoid it.
