Toronto maple leafs as we all now are to top heavy with our forwards. Yes we can score but in any sport it is a prove fact over years that defense wins over offense in every
Sport. So these are trades that I think that will help the leafs defensively and create a more balanced approach.

Thoughts. Yes you have to give up good players to get good players back. You probably hate trading Nylander but he is over paid as he is terrible defensively and is soft. Kapanen is cheaper , faster and is better defensively. Sorry but that's the truth.

Nylander makes 6.9 not 6.5 but that's a minor detail. As I mentioned on another trade, I wouldn't trade Nylander one for one for Dumba. Nylander is worth far more whether our fan base wants to make him Jake Gardiner 2.0 or not. His possession numbers and zone entry are both top 20 in the league (and ahead of Marner), with the way he is playing he and Mathews are actually the most team friendly deal if you want to break it down and he is signed for 5 years at 6.9. Dumba is only 3 years and coming off major surgery. No one has a clue if he looks like poo because surgery messed him up or because his whole team is poo. His value isn't nearly what it used to be.

Now my question to you, as a "non bias" fan, how is Nylander over paid and Marner is not? Both signed 6 year deals, both were more than willing to hold out before Dubas caved but one of them makes 6.9 one of them makes 10.9.

So essentially what 4 mil a year bought us, over the same term is;

Worse possession numbers in most categories, same abysmal play in his own end 90% of the time, less goals by what will probably end up being a fair amount every year and .325 more pts per game. So essentially all Marner has that makes him better to every fan around here that won't stop demonizing and blaming singular players is; he gets 1 more assist than Nylander every 3 games while scoring 1 less goal every 10 games.

If I was an NHL player there are two cities I would never touch. Montreal and Toronto. If Gretzky played here he would have been loved but the second he did something people didn't like he would have been hated and blamed and demonized. I haven't found one objective reason for why "Nylander is overpaid" yet. Please show me one so I can understand every one's point of view here.

Nylander is soft but hard on the puck. He is quite good at stripping people. His defensive game has improved playing with Tavares.

Switch Nylander with kapanen if your not going to play kapanen in your top 6 Barrie trade you should be able to get a 1st or 2nd at the very least and the manson trade makes no sense for Anaheim 2 prospects that basically have no nhl experience and a cap dump.

Leafslife I guess you don't watch many leafs games. When was the last time Nylander checked another player with anything other THAN HIS STICK!
When was the last time Nylander blocked a shot. Never, that's why he plays every game. Tavares makes all wingers that he has played with better. This year he has made Nylander better. Did Nylander have these numbers you so boost about playing with Matthews. NO.

So I guess you didn't notice Nylander's one and only move when he has the puck. Skate like hell down the wing (not in the center of the ice where he will get HIT! ) NO DOWN THE WING, SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND MAKE A BAD PASS! So yes he is soft and over paid so get over it. He is a ballerina not a high end nhl player worth all than money.

Second, I do agree with you on Marner and he is over paid by 3-4 million. Public fan and media pressure put on Dubas to sign Marner caused this over payment. Solely based on Dubas screwing around with Nylander contract. He should have made Nylander sit out the whole year and we would not have the unbalanced salary structure the leafs are in now.
