Blockbuster Trade Rumor

To the New Jersey Devils:

Kasperi Kapenen, Jake Muzzin, Cody Ceci, Timothy Lilejgren, Jeremiah Bracco and a 2nd Rd pick in 2020.

To the Toronto Maple Leafs:

Taylor Hall and Damon Severson

Love to have both hall and severson on the leafs. theyd fit the leafs so well

Muzzin is the only problem with this deal. don't want to lose him.

Not sure about this one. Really on the fence which I guess is the sign of a good prop lol. Severson is on a good contract for awhile more and obviously a player we would all be happy with but Hall is a rental. Leafs cannot afford him unless they ship out Marner and sign Hall after this season. I think I would actually pull the trigger on this if they would take something other than Muzzin. Maybe Trevor Moore and a 2nd?

This trade makes the leafs the best team I know of for this year. It also gives someone who plays RHD for a few more years locked up which the leafs have none of. After this year if Hall walks it's pretty whatever since the hope is the former mvp brings us a cup.

What do Leafs give up: 3RW (Kapanen), 2LHD UFA (Muzzin), 2RHD UFA (Ceci), picks/ prospects.

What do Leafs gain: 1LW UFA (Hall), 2RHD (Severson)

So, Iâ€™m going to say Severson ~ Kapanen, and the rest ~ Hall.

First off, Leafs say no. Hall is too much for a rental and doesnâ€™t really improve us much more than the superstar studded lineup we already got. Severson is a second line defenseman at best. Leafs already got enough of those guys, and trading away our best blue-chip prospect (Liljegren) at that position for a guy whoâ€™s upward ceiling has already been reached (Severson) is a bad move. Liljegren might actually be a true 1RHD one day. Canâ€™t say the same about Severson.

@LeafsGm. Yes Defenseman take longer than forwards but saying Lili may one day be a 1RHD is like saying Robertson may one day be MVP. It's a complete unknown at this point. Severson is far, far better than Ceci and signed to a decent contract. Hall may be a rental but as much as I love Hyman, a line of either Mathews, Hall, Nylander or Tavares, Hall, Marner becomes the most dangerous line in hockey. If Muzzin must be included in this deal for it to work then Dermott steps in for Muzzin which is a small downgrade but still a better top 4 than it was before. After this year you still keep severson. After this year you don't keep Ceci or Muzzin (unless they are signed) . The more I think about this deal the better it becomes. After this deal it would be:

Hall Tavares Marner
Johnson Mathews Nylander
Mikheyev Kerfoot Moore
Whoever Babcock plays that night with Goat.

Reilly Severson
Dermott Barrie
Same as 4th line

Hyman gets traded for a prospect and/ or pick. It's a far superior team going forward and now.

Muzzin is our only solid top 4 defensive dman, makes no sense to trade him when we need another top 4 defensive dman. only part of this trade that makes sense to me is something like Kapanen for Severson.

Severson is an upgrade over Ceci, but not a massive one. He is still only 2RHD. He would just be on our top line because we donâ€™t have anyone else. Donâ€™t fool yourself into thinking that just because heâ€™s better than Ceci and will be our 1RHD that heâ€™s worth a lot. Because heâ€™s not.
