Tor: Honka

Dal: ceci, 4th

Ceci had a decent first game but you can't help but look at his cap hit. Honka was a former 1st round pick with Dallas and I think he still has potential to grow, or at least give him a shot. The 4th rounder is added in to compensate ceci's cap hit.

Pulock didn’t make the nhl until he was 24, and he’s turned into a pretty good defenseman. It is well known that defensive prospects take longer to develop than forwards. So while a 23 year old forward might be a write off at this point, a 23 year old defenseman might still turn into a good and useful player.

I don’t know why Honka demanded a trade. Probably because Dallas has amassed an amazing top 4. Chances of Honka making the team in any significant capacity is slim. But that doesn’t mean we should trade Ceci for him. Yes, Ceci comes with a high price tag, but at least he is playing nhl. Honka has done nothing so far to make me think he is any better than Ceci. And if Honka doesn’t work out, then we are in dire need on another RHD. At least with Ceci we know what we got. Honka is too much a question mark.

I see where your going with this. Lose the cap hit and give Honka a chance. If he works out great. If not, grab someone else at deadline since you just saved money. Personally rather see something like Bracco or Marchment for Honka as I don't think Dal wants a D back and the leafs don't need anymore RW.

I like honka and think leafs could get him with a 3rd alone and just hand them marincin so babcock can't overplay since he is on dallas now. can't play what you don't have. the dubas way.

We could probably get him for less than a 3rd even Craigger. He’s not a full time nhl player, and might never become one, he publicly demanded a trade, he's 23 and has not impressed much at all, and to top it all off, Dallas doesn’t want him, or need him.

My guess is that like Puljujarvi, Honka knows this year is his last year (pretty well) to make the team, or forever be an ahl’er. Knowing he has no chance in Dallas with guys like Lindell, Heiskenan, Klingberg, etc in front of him, he wants a chance somewhere else. And I don’t blame him.
