No No and No, stop trying to trade Matthews away! You don't wait forever to draft a generational talented Centre to then go ahead and trade them away! Please stop this non sense.

@Torontobuds when he plays 82 games and scores a hundred points or wins the Rocket Richard trophy, I’ll stop trading him on this site until then explain this generational talent again to me please? Would you call the last 2 1st overall players generational talents or how about the 3 guys the oilers picked 1st overall that’s not named Mcdavid please explain the definition of generational talent so I can lock it down for my own knowledge.
In my time of watching hockey these are the generational talents that I have saw
(1.) Gretzky
(2.) Lemieux
(3.) Lindros
(4.) Ovechkin
(5.) Crosby
(6.) Mcdavid

Now there’s been lots of great players before these cats on this list and during there playing time here’s a few
Orr, Howe, Lefleur, Brett Hull, Oates, Yserman, Sackic, Forsberg, Messier, Roy, Brodeur, Jagr, and so on an so would you call any of them Generational? How many of these guys are actually worse than Mathews honestly?

Mathews has more goals per game in his first 3 seasons than Ovi, so I’m pretty sure you’re drastically under rating how good he is.

I would remove Lindros from that list and replace him with Neidermeyer. Neidermeyer did more for both his team, and his country, than Lindros ever did. Even family. His brother Rob was on the Anaheim team that won the cup.

Not sure if I’m double posting, so here’s a quick question who would you take Mathews or Messier? My point being Messier was not considered a generational talent and I don’t even have to think about who I would take, Because the Moose is a winner and what has Mathews won? Messier was leader amongst leaders and he delivered the goods! Hopefully Mathews proves me wrong because that would be good for the leafs.
My last point will be its alright to have a man crush on a player but for the record I don’t care who’s on the leafs as long as we win the cup before I die! I’m a Toronto Maple Leaf fan!

Well when I do a quick search for "top centres in the NHL" practically every report puts Matthews in the top 5, some rank him 2nd to McDavid. So yes, I would say generational. Matthews is a perennial 40 goal player with 50+ as an upside if he stays healthy (goal projections last 2 years would have been 45 and 44 goals respectively)

Ok ok I’ll give up on the Mathews trade for a bit but i do love how people always have to use projections when it pertains to Mathews and the plus side is projections say 50+ assists lol! I’ll take it! For the record he couldn’t hold Mcdavids jock strap! So don’t go there unless your projections say otherwise!

@leafsgm Lindros changed the way we looked at the game of hockey. Neidermeyer grew into a once in a lifetime type hockey player never came into the league with those expectations they did however call Lindros the Next one! That said hands down Neidermeyer had the better career no argument but he didn’t change hockey like the other guys on that list did.
