If I am reading this right from capfriendly, Leafs ONLY have 3.8 MIL in space. Add Horton with 5.3 MIL you have 9.1 MIL. Still not enough to sign Greedy Mitchy.

So Dubas is going to have to trade Kessel 1.2 MIL to free up space taking nothing back. Now 10.3 MIL. Even if they pay Greedy 10.0 MIL then next to no excess left.

Only player on roster now who they can send down who is on two way contract is Goat which saves another .675K. Now having approx 2.175 MIL ( .300 + .675 + 1.2). Depth guys they signed Agostino, Shore, Gravel even Holl are all on one way contracts. All in the .675-.750K range which counts on cap as one way contracts.

COL 3rd '20 (CBJ) Kessel 1.2 MIL

COL with 27.1 MIL in cap space. They obviously need to sign Rantanen and Zadorov as big names.

This would leave Leafs with 3.375 MIL in space assuming no other moves.

Not sexy trade but cost of doing business.

I think my math is right.

What makes you believe that retained salary is a tradeable asset?

They will send down some contracts to the Marlies after training camp. That will open up probably another $1.5M or so.

Btw - you can not trade the cap hit from Kessel.

Dubas is going to trade Kessel’s $1.2M. That’s a great idea. I love it. I didn’t even know you could trade retained salary. I never heard of such a thing before. I honestly don’t know if you’re math is right. I tried following it, but got lost. If it’s allowable to trade retained salary, then Leafs should absolutely go ahead with this proposal if it ever becomes a viable option. It’s a fantastic idea. It really is. I love it.

You know what would have been nice? If we could have got Zadorov for the right price too. Gravel, Harpur, Marincin, Holl would pretty much equal Zadorov salary. Or Ceci alone would do it. I mean, for the same price, who would you rather have, Zadorov? Or any of those other hacks?

My math isn't right. I'm sure some of you have caught it. I double-dipped on Kessel.

The 3.375 I stated they had is wrong. Take 1.2 away for double-dipping and you are back at 2.175 as stated before.

They can and will trade Sparks .750K for 7th to someone and then they now will have 2.925 remaining cap space.

Will have full roster but could use another depth dman. Not sure Gravel plays much. More of a Marlie guy. Why was Marincin resigned?

The Leafs have at least available $9.5M available and that does not include LTIR for Dermott and Hyman who will also begin the season on IR.
