An in depth physical on Perry prior to signing.

Ceci's +/ - is horrendous - not all of that can be accounted to the team. But considering we are trading Zaitsev, it's a step forward.

Lou may really want Kadri and pay that price.

I think Benning will improve once out of Edmonton. A good deal for both sides. Puljujarvi is a gamble, but he does have size, and Edmonton may just bite on a 2nd.

If the money is there, someone suggested Dan Girardi. He would be a good tutor for the young D on the right side.

I read, from multiple authors actually, that ace i is not even nhl caliber defenseman anymore. I’m not a scout or analyst by any measure, so I don’t honestly know if that is true or not. But it’s pretty obvious just by looking at his stats that he is struggling. He’s not worth $5M a year. No way. This trade doesn’t help us in any way. I think Leafs should pass.

GM

One caveat to how this trade helps us.

Leafs need to resign Marner, and clear cap to protect against an offer sheet.
The Leafs will offer a low ball salary.

If I have it right; then Ceci would take the Leafs to arbitration (not the Leafs taking Ceci to arbitration) and the Leafs submit a ridiculously low value where the arbitrator has no choice but to award the players bid. Then the Leafs have the right to walk away, gaining Zaitsev's cap space (and maybe Browns salary in total) . Ceci gets free agency. The Leafs get nothing in return but cap space, which is desired.

The Leafs will then have enough to protect against any reasonable Marner offer sheet.

If it's straight up for Ceci then it's the same as dumping Zaitsev for no cost. A little cruel, but that's business.

Best of luck getting 5M+ Ceci.

I like where you’re coming from, but seems like a lot of work. Why not just trade Zaitsev, Brown, etc for a 7th round pick?

Maybe no one wants him. No one wants Ceci. At least, not at the prices both are at.

Lots of teams will want Brown at 2.1M. Actually will be a shame to move him in a deal like this.
