OK something new. Not proposing we do this just wondering out loud

Marner to Carolina for Hamilton plus whoever u want to add. Results in:

Nylander back with Matthews (and Nylander looking cheaper and cheaper) and Johnsson roughly $22m

Sign Panarin if u can get him for $9m. Tavares, Panarin and Hyman together (don't care who plays where) $22m

Kadri, Kapanen and Moore $8m. Forth line brings us to say $55m.

Reilly, Hamilton, muzzin and Dermott top 4 at $16m roughly. Two young ones at $2m. Anderson plus another $7m

Brings us to $80m. The add in the trade prospects or draft choices based on these numbers.

Again not saying I would do it but team certainly isn't bad.

Oh and Marleau and Zaitsev go for futures of any kind. Can also upgrade backup goalie a bit if needed.

How about an alternate:

Trade Nylander for Hamilton plus

Put Marner at 10.5 with Matthews and Hyman. Tavares with Kapanen and Johnsson. Add Kadri and Moore and at $47m plus fourth line and at $50m. Still need third line rw

Defence still $18m plus goalies and at $75m with $5m to spend on that rw.

How does that result in Nylander back with Matthews when Marner was playing with Tavares? And why trade Marner and not Nylander? Marner is a far better player than Nylander is.

If Carolina won't pay Aho and Faulk, what makes everyone think they will want Nylander or Marner?
