To tor gudas

Zaitsev was orlovs d partner in russia last 3 world championships and they r great together. Toronto didn't want the salary of niskanen and philly didn't want long term cap of zaitsev. This was the way to get zaitsev on washington and washington getting rid of niskanens cap hit..gudas will want too much money for washingtons liking at years end so why not get long term in zaitsev.

Toronto may need to add guys like stotts,kral or even 0ne of the 4 Russian prospects they have. Either way this seems like a perfect fit for both teams.

Washington traded Niskanen to save cap. that's why they made Philly eat 30% on Gudas, so that he's at like 2M, compared to Niskanens 5.9. Zaitsev is cheaper than Niskanen at 4.5, but isn't as good, and is expensive. No dice from Washington, especially since the Gudas/ Niskanen deal just happened.

Washington says no. They traded Niskanen for cap space and I don't think they would make this trade. Gudas is way better than Zaitsev anyway and on a much better contract.

We could eat some of Zaitsev’s salary. If we retain half, that’s $2.25M. So basically Gudas and Zaitsev switch salaries for Washington, who ends up getting a long term top 4 second line RHD signed for another five years for $2.25M AAV. That would be a no-brainer for them.
