With all the talk about the leafs being a target for an offer sheet, why not the talk of the Leafs offer sheeting someone once they clear some cap.

Available cap is currently $8.8M + $5.3M (Horton LTIR) = $14.1M

To EDM: F - C. Brown

To TOR: 2020 2nd round pick + 2019 4th round pick

Leafs recapture $1.3M in cap (assume Bracco is called up)

and

To OTT: D - N. Zaitsev + D - J. Holl + F - A. Brooks + 2020 4th

To TOR: G - M. Condon + D. Demelo

Leafs buyout Condon and recapture cap of $3.85M while adding DeMelo

and

To LAK: F - P. Marleau + F - D. Timashov

To TOR: F - T. Lewis

Leafs recapture $4.25M in cap, can be more if they then flip Lewis or buy him out

Total new cap is a minimum of $23.75M

Marner 8 x$10M
Kapanen 3 x $3.5M
Johnsson 2 x $3M

Offer sheet compensation for $6.3M < $8.4M is 1st, 2nd and 3rd

Offer sheet Trouba

7 years $49M

Total cap for Marner, Kapanen, Johnsson and Trouba is $23.5M!

Trouba won't sign an offer sheet as the Jets would match it and he loses all control as to when and where he goes. Now he knows that's its in the Jets best interest to move him to one of 6 teams that Trouba would sign a long term deal with which would give the Jets the best return. It will be a straight trade or a sign and trade to a team that gives the Jets the best return.

I don't disagree that the Jets would trade him, but I think there are more than 6 teams he would sign with.

If Jets are going to trade Trouba to the highest bidder, then it wouldn’t surprise me if Kadri is it.

I got a gut feeling that you Jets fans are going to be disappointed with the return you get for Trouba.

I don’t understand what you mean by “one of six teams”? Trouba doesn’t have a NMC. And how do you know Toronto isn’t one of those teams? From what I’ve read, Toronto is one of the teams Trouba would actually go to. So if Toronto is offering enough money and is one of the places Trouba would like to go to, then why wouldn’t he sign it?
