OK so going to start off by saying I favour small trades. The leafs took Boston to game seven with 2 d hurt and Hainsey and Zaitsev. And Kadri being out. So for me it's smaller adjustments

I like Pesce but let's talk Miller.

Miller for Kadri. Not concerned about who adds what. Let's start with that.

Then load top two lines and play them 20 minutes

Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-tavares -Marner

These top two likely 45m

Third line 12 minutes. I'd like to see Moore and Kapanen together. They both skate and bring energy. So who can skate with them. Marleau is going nowhere. For 12 minutes and a veteran presence and because he can skate try him there. Looking at $10m for that line

Fourth line I say offence. But be cognizant of defence. Skate. Marchment brings size. Put petan in there. And keep brown to be the veteran helping on defence first

Total forward cost likely $58-59m

Play muzzin with Miller as shut down pair. Bring Dermott up with reilly. Easier for them as not playing top opposition. Rosen needs to come up. Bring Liljegren with if he impressed. $16-17m? You want to run and gun a bit? Do it

Trade Zaitsev for anything and likely retain $1m

Andersen-backup-Kessel us what $7m?

Looking at $82-84m so give or take a few bucks. Spend to the cap if that's the idea.

I like the Kadri for Miller trade. Miller is still a very damn good defenseman, and isn’t a 6-7. He’s a top 4 defenseman, and on the Leafs he would be playing beside Rielly. He averaged 20 minutes a game with Vegas last season, with very respectable numbers.

Just to nit-pick a little. If you play the top three lines as much as you suggest, then the 4th line will only be seeing 3 minutes of ice time a night. If that’s the case, Brown should be traded. At $2.1M a year for 3 minutes a night, it would make him the highest paid player in the league.

You really are a dreamer if you think Minnesota accept that trade. Actually, they had been making some pretty fantastic trades before deadline, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just continue to shed salary and trade players for next to nothing.

Wild just re-signed Staal, and to less mo eh. They are going to keep him. Rask would be the better “throw-in” for this trade. Rask has negative value, so attaching him to Dumba makes it easier pull for Wild to swallow dealing Dumba.

My understanding is the Vegas doesn’t have any cap space left themselves and are looking to dump salary. They wouldn’t want a roster player back right now, and their prospect pool is full. They have a whopping 10 picks in this year’s draft. So any trade for Miller will be non-roster prospect players and picks, not necessarily for this year either. So, you might be very right MostLeaf. It’s very possible someone could pick Miller up for future considerations basically. It’s not like he’s highly valued by Vegas’ management.
