You have to give and take is what I always say! Lol! This trade will win us more games vs what we lose in goal scoring from Mathews. This defense is better and will stop the goals from going in so if other teams score say 50-60 less goals against the leafs that differential between Mathews say 40-45 goals should justify this trade. I also ensured that we top up the baby leafs and grabbed some picks for futures to keep this going.

This trade would put the leafs right back where they started. We needed a top C and Matthews is the guy. You don't come across these guys very often and you certainly don't trade them away. Our D looks great based on this trade but we will fix up the D by trading Nylander, Kappy, Kadri, or Johnnson.

I would agree with trading Mathews. Tavares is s very capable top line center.

@16 once again I need to stress this exercise is only for fun and looking at the team from different angles, that’s it! I do enjoy posting trades to get the reactions I get but at the end of the day I’m not Dubas, but I bet behind closed doors they play these same type of exercises with their scouting team. It’s what makes this site so much fun!
Now that’s out of the way this trade would benefit the leafs in a few ways first off they would win more just because how good this defensive squad is out together then I would suspect they 4 cats coming in would give us 40 goals amongst them. Plus the prospects and picks to keep it supported from within.
Fast forward to the end of the 2019-2020 season and Muzzin and Marleau are gone we have Liljegren, Rosen and Sadin to fill those shoes and we have Engvall, Moore and Bracco to fill Marleau. With cap inflation and a garaunteed.

Hit the send button a little early lol and I spelt Guarantee wrong! Anyway I’m just saying there’s Quality in this trade proposal and we would win more games on defensive efficiency alone and what I was trying to say in the last post was what goals we lose from mathews we gain from Hamilton, Teravainen, niederreiter and Pesce.

Once again it’s something to look at and discuss!

Not a chance Carolina gives all that up. And more imortantly, how will the leafs pay for the 21.5 mil in salaries. I know your having fun, but maybe try to be a little realistic.
