Leafs trade Nylander, Brown, Bracco
Arizona trades Galchenyuk, Crouse, Fischer

(Marleau) / Matthews/ Galchenyuk
Hyman/ Tavares/ Marner
Johnsson/ Kadri/ Kapanen
Crouse/ Gauthier/ Fischer

Gotta love the size of that fourth line.

Nylander > Galchenyuk

It’s not even close.

SmileyRielly! Your back? That’s awesome. Anyone who has been on this site a while knows, for fact, that you are without doubt one of the more astute contributors to this site. So, when you tell me that Nylander >> Galchenyuk, I have to take that comment very seriously.

I will counter though that Galchenyuk has one 30 goal year already. And his stats in Arizona are pretty good considering that Arizona is the black hole of the league. It’s the team where hockey players go and disappear. And in Montreal, if I remember correctly, Galchenyuk was used on the second and third lines with guys like Shaw, Byron, Plekanec. All good players, yes, but a far cry from Matthews and Hyman, the two guys Nylander spent his first two years playing with.

But I actually think Nylander is better than Galchenyuk too.
This trade was more about dumping salary and the two bottom line guys that I brought in: Crouse and Fischer. I should have put them up higher in the lineups like I was going to in order to emphasize the fact that they were the real targets.

After seeing how well Strome and Domi are doing in their new homes, you got to wonder if Crouse, and maybe Fischer, could have breakout years on the Leafs? They both have so much talent, I suspect that they are being misused on Arizona and on a better, more offensively capable team like Leafs, these guys would break out?

I should have just focused the trade on the lower guys and skipped the Nylander/ Galchenyuk part as it draws away too much from the guys I was hoping to focus on.

I’m glad you responded SmileyRielly. You really are a very clever man. I’ve always enjoyed your comments and proposals. You absolutely do have an astute mind and keen hockey sense. You really know what you are talking about. What are your thoughts on Crouse and Fischer? Should Leafs take a chance on them? And what would you be willing to offer for them?

Leafs Gm over 5 million offer sheet Kapanan 4 first round picks in offer sheet. How high would leafs go to match. But I don’t think team will give up four first rounders 4 him.

Hey david. How’s your day so far? You ask an interesting question here. I was just reading an interview with Dubas, and he was alluding that offer sheets will be making a come back. So we may soon see teams start to make them again. Which brings the question of compensation right to the forefront again.

No team in the league will give up 4 first rounders for Kapanen.

Unlike the Marner situation, Leafs completely have the upper hand in Kapanen’s negotiations. He’s just not worth so much that another team offer sheets him. Anything up to $4M the compensation is only a 2nd round pick. I can see Kapanen being worth about that. Anything between $4M-$6M, the compensation is 1st + 3rd. I can’t see Kapanen being worth more than $4M. So if another team offer sheets him above $4M, Leafs might just take the picks and let another team financially handicap themselves by overpaying for Kapanen.

So basically David, I think Leafs will match any offer sheet less than $4M, as the compensation is only a 2nd. After $4M, the offering team is paying too much, and depending on the team making the offer, that 1st could be very valuable indeed.

I hope you are having a good day David. The weather is crap, but I guess it’s February. What do you expect. Lol. It’s hockey season.

The Phillipines David? That’s awesome. Fantastic you’re able to get away from this iceball we call home here in Canada. I love the internet just for the reason you stayed: can get nhl games without having a tv or cable. Because I usually work afternoons, a lot of the time I have to watch the games the next day or whatever, but that’s ok. I can watch them wherever and whenever at my convenience and don’t need to worry about blackouts and such. We usually air the games are the gym, but I can’t hear them or give it my full attention. So recap and replays is the way to go.

You’re a good man David. I enjoy our almost daily chats. As I was saying to Memarcusjoe, same applies to you. You are a smart man and have keen hockey sense. You follow the right team, and even when we don’t agree, you’re not disagreeable, if you know what I’m saying. I love your stuff David. Hope you don’t Ghost this site. Lol.

I’m looking forward to your next proposal. I hope you give me something to think about later today. Lol. Until then, stay safe my friend and keep warm. 😉.

LEAFS_NATION,

You nailed it.

Yeah let's trade a top 3/6 forward to get 3 underwhelming players to increase the size of the fourth line? Yup that will get Leafs over the hump of going deep into playoffs.

I am not opposed to the players you selected but I just don’t like changing something that’s not broken. Lindholm- goat- brown has been great. That’s two capable 4 C’s with Moore and Ennis ready step in if needed. I think if we improve our forward group it has to be a top 6 LW to play with Matthews so that Marleau can play with Kadri again. Reduced work load and they did well in the past. Marleau isn’t keeping up as well as did last year. God love him but he’s a middle six forward leaning more toward third line.
