We have $4.3M in cap space, but Dubas wants to keep $3.75M for bonuses, so we can only take on ~$500k in cap hit. So...

TOR: Brown ($2.1M) + Borgman ($925k)

PHI: Gudas ($3.35M)

Leafs only take on $325k, can replace Brown with Moore, get an actual RHD and can move Zaitsev and Hainsey down (and out of!) the lineup.

Flyers can sell off Simmons and replace him with Brown.

What's not to like?

Borgman isn't on the roster that counts against the cap so you're adding 1.25 million

Ozhiganov and holl are on the roster that counts against cap so would they be an acceptable replacement in this trade instead of borgman

Your idea is good just need to subtract actual roster salary cap money for your idea to work.

I’m not sure if Philly would have any use for Borgman, but they would like Brown I’m sure. I don’t know if Brown for Gudas is fair value or not, but it never hurts to ask, and I can see some advantages for both teams should this trade take place.

I actually had high hopes for Borgman heading into this season. It looks like he’s being passed by Rosen though. It could be that Rosen makes the team next year ahead of Borgman. Though I suppose since we are losing both Gardiner and Hainsey, there could be room for both Rosen and Borgman to make the leap to NHL.

That Gudas. He’s a real beast. Exact type of player virtually every analyst I’ve read says we need. He shouldn’t be too expensive to acquire. And his contract is very reasonable as well. And as it expires end of next season, same as Muzzin, that clears up the space we need for Liljegren and Sandin, both of whom should be ready for start of 2020 season.

If Philly would go for that, I'm all for it. The value seems fair enough. My only reservation, I'm not convinced Philly will be selling at the deadline. Carter Hart is the Truth. Since they called him up Philly's been on a tear, I could legitimately see them buying at the deadline. They've been a goalie away from contention for a while now, but I think they found one now.

Ozhiganov may want a trade now that he isn't playing, or we could send him down since he has a two-way (entry level) contract. That could releive some cap right there. Borgman wouldn't releive any cap since he is playing in the minors.
My solution:
Include Zaitsev and a pick or prospect to compensate for his high cap hit. Done deal.

Trade makes sense cept Babcock likes Hainsey too much so he isn't moving out of lineup. Just because you don't like/ want Hainsey out of line up doesn't mean it is going to happen.

At worst Hainsey remains 3rd pair.

Would be nice to move Zaitsev prob in summer.
