Here's my take, Saad is doing alright but for 6 million Chicago needs better bang for their buck. This is where Toronto comes into play. There's a 6 point difference between Johnsson 21 and Saad 27 but there's 5.1ish million difference in Salary. Johnsson is young enough to risk the thought that he'll get better and it will give Chicago some flexibility in the cap next year you'll have to sign him hopefully around 2.2 to 3 million per year. The rest of the moving parts just justifies doing it for Chicago!
Now this only works this year something would have to be done with in the summer once Mathews, Marner and Kapanen gets paid but that said Gardner moving on and Sadin/Liljegren/Rosen/Borgman coming up we only have to trade Marleau or survive one more year with him and he's off the books.
Saad is a big man that could help up front. I know I love trading for a defense man but realistically it's probably coming from within because the cost is either to expensive to sign (I.e. Carlson) or you'll have to trade the farm and still hurt your overall performance et la Oilers (Larson for Hall) that's why adding to the offence in the right way makes sense.

Trading a first, a good prospect, a ahl/ echl dman and a solid quick rookie forward for guy who is making 6 million who has 6 more points than that said rookie forward seems like a bit much.

Heck to berid chicago of that insane contract i think johnson for saad and a 2nd is much more realistic. but that's just my opinion of course.

I’d rather have Lee Majors for the same price what Saad is getting. I think you make the best point yourself why I’m personally not in favor of this Chicago trade here: you get way more bang for your buck with Johnsson.

Saad is a very good player. Whether or not he is worth $6M is a rather moot point. Chicago signed himto that contract. They think he is worth it. Chicago can keep him for that price. Leafs can’t afford him.
