Leafs: Gardener
NYI: Mayfield, 2019 2nd

Leafs:Borgman, Timashov, 2019 4th(TO)
Hawks: Gustafsson

Sure that Lou would love to get the Islanders into the playoffs in his first year and Jake's offense would help. They also have the cap space to extend him. Leafs get a BIG RHD with some grit and good corsi numbers. $1.45m x5Y.
Chicago gets some nice pieces for their rebuild. Leafs get a left shooting RHD with good corsi and decent scoring. as played top line minutes with both Keith and Seabrook. $1.2m x 2Y.

Leafs: Zaitsev, Bracco, 2019 3rd
Yotes: Crouse

Crouse has been misused and under preformed and been a bust in Arizona. Big LW with grit and decent wheels. Forechecks well. Can Leafs development system resurrect his career? See him developing into a bigger version of Hyman with a bit more of a scoring touch.

Rielly(LHS) - Gustafsson(LHS)
Dermott(LHS) - Mayfield(RHS)
Hainsey(LHS) - Ozhiganov(RHS)
Total Salary hit ... $12.5M

The best thing about Mayfield is his contract, obviously. He’s 26 years old and only has 124 games played. This is his first full year NHL. And he’s doing well. Really well. I love his size. He will have over 100 hits this year, and if he continues to see more ice time and be used in more aspects of the game, his hit count could break 200. He averages almost 19:00 minutes a night, but I’m sure the big guy can handle more. I don’t know the timeline on Dobson and Wilde, but Islander’s also already have Pulock and Boychuk. So if either of Wilde or Dobson are NHL ready, Islanders would be willing to part with Mayfield.

The thing that gives me pause about this trade is Gardiner’s pending UFA status. Islanders have seven UFA’s on the team, including 3 of their top 4 forwards, and 2 RFA’s as Beauvillier and DalColle come off their ELC’s. Even with a cool $10M in cap space, adding Gardiner into the mix is going to give poor Lou a heart attack negotiating all those deals.

The other question I ask myself is “does this trade increase our chances of winning this year? ”, and to that question I have to lean towards No as my answer. Gardiner is the superior player. If Dubas doesn’t think a trade will increase his chances of winning the cup this year, then I don’t think he makes the trade.

As much as I like Mayfield, and as much as I would like to see a return on Gardiner rather than lose him to free agency, I don’t think Leafs make this trade.

The Gustafsson trade I could see happening.

Good deals and explainng on each one. i don't object on either of these deals and feel other teams involved may actually go for them. You not only get the leafs out of zaitsevs contract but also add some grit to their lineup.

Well done.

I think your giving up too much in the first deal. If Gardiner is moved to NYI the leafs would want Pulock back, he is younger and puts up more points, which we would need if Gardiner left. It's not a bad trade value wise and Mayfield is still a great player, but that's just my opinion on who the leafs would want back.

I don't think you coming anywhere near Gustafssons value though. He will likely hit 45 points by the end of the season so a couple of AHL players and a 4th isn't going to cut it.
